Is Your Resume Outdated?
Posted On Thursday, January 15 2009 at 02:08 PM
Let’s face it, if you haven’t updated your resume since your last job, it needs to be updated! But, it isn’t just the obvious things that need fixing!
Resume Update #1: Your Work Experience Make sure that your last place of employment, or current place of employment are on your resume! You don’t want to submit your resume today with your last listed place of employment in 2006.
Resume Update #2: Your Cover Letter
Whether you have been with a company for one year or ten, you have gained more experience and chances are, you are your list of talents has expanded. Make sure that is reflected in your cover letter. Employers don’t want to know who you used to be, they want to know who you are!
Resume Update #3: Your Resume Format
That’s right, your resume format. Did you know there was actually a write way and a wrong way to format your resume. And yes, we are getting into spacing, margins, file size and file type.
Resume Update #4: Your Career Focus
If your career focus has changed, make sure it is reflected on your resume. If your career focus has changed but your resume hasn’t, you may just end up doing a job you didn’t sign up for!
Resume Update #5: Your Training and Education
At one point or another we are either forced to, or voluntarily, participate in training programs. Some of us even go back to school! Make sure you include this information on your resume.
