Jump Start Your Career

Posted On Wednesday, May 13 2009 at 01:08 PM

So you want to jump start your career, wonderful! But how do you do it? Easy, just follow these steps:

Career Jump Start Goal #1: Be Practical About Your Goals

You don't want to set your goals to low, but more importantly, you want to avoid setting them to high. You can conquer the world, just not overnight!

Career Jump Start Goal #2: Listen More Thank You Talk

At first, you want to listen more than you talk. Any knowledge or information that is being offered, take it. You can decide what to pay attention to later.

Career Jump Start Goal #3: Uncover Opportunities

This goes hand in hand with listening. If there have been office complaints, write them down; if you got wind there will be a change in management soon, pay attention; if you find out the guy down the hall with the bigger office is getting fired, great for you! Take note of what is happening and see where they fit in with your goals.

Career Jump Start Goal #4: Take Initiative

In other words, do before you are asked. Don't wait before you are asked to do something, just do it; if you don't know the answer, try to find it; if you have a problem, try to work through it.

Career Jump Start Goal #5: Create Opportunities

Opportunity doesn't always come knocking at your door; sometimes you have to create it. If you know there is a promotion up for grabs, take the extra steps in trying to earn it; if you haven't yet met the CEO, try to.

Career Jump Start Goal #6: Race to The Top

It is a fast and vicious race to the top. You want to get there, your friends want to get there, your neighbors want to get there. So long as you are attentive, pro-active, and have the motivation and drive to get there, you will! And if for some reason you don't, maybe you should think about starting your own company.
