Issues Dealing With Young Leadership

Posted On Thursday, January 15 2009 at 01:54 PM

Criticism is natural, very natural. You will find that for every one person trying to build you up, there will be nine more trying to knock you down. I started my first business consulting firm when I was sixteen years old, and let me just tell you, it wasn't easy. The one thing I found was that in order to gain respect, you have to earn it. You have to have confidence in your talents and abilities before you can expect anyone else to. The key thing is to focus on conveying your idea, NOT who the idea is coming from. There are two types of people you will encounter: ones that embrace change and ones that fear it. You will find that the ones who fear change are intimidated by you and the ones who embrace change are intrigued by you. Now I’m sure you keep thinking, “If I just had the chance to show them what I could do, they would understand my capabilities.” To show them you need an opportunity and opportunities don’t just happen, they have to be created, and yes, by you. It also helps to have an understanding of people. The better you can profile the individual you are speaking with, the more successful you will be when communicating with them. You should attempt to grasp their social style, personality type, motivations, decision making processes, etc. You will find that knowing that information will make all the difference in the world! Success is investing all that you are into what you have a burning desire to achieve. If you have the drive and motivation, are resourceful, have an open mind, and are always willing to learn, you will do just fine. Don’t look for support, just focus on success. Here are a few more helpful things to keep in mind: Nothing is a problem, it’s a challenge and with every challenge comes opportunity. “It isn’t what happens to you that determines how far you go in life; its how you choose to handle what has happened to you (Zig Ziglar).
